Where the Missed Calls Go

October 26, 2026

You're under a car, with a patient or halfway up a ladder, and the phone rings. You'll call them back. Some of those callers leave a message - plenty don't. They ring the next name on the list, and you never find out they called.

Most owners I talk to know this happens. Very few have actually counted it.

Count it this week

It takes about ten minutes with your phone's call log. Go back seven days and count:

  1. The calls you missed while you were working
  2. The calls that came in after hours or on the weekend
  3. The voicemails nobody got back to within a day

Then think about what one new customer is worth to you over a year. You don't need an exact number to see whether the gap matters.

What an AI receptionist does

It answers your line in your business's name, every time - nights and weekends included. Depending on how you set it up, it can:

  • Answer the common questions - hours, location, what you do and don't do
  • Book the caller straight into your calendar
  • Take their details and send you the message, so you call back knowing what it's about
  • Tell callers anything you need them to know, like a closure or a holiday

One of our clients runs a small auto repair shop, and he closed from mid-October for a few weeks while he was away. The receptionist kept answering, told callers when the shop reopens, answered their questions and booked them in for after. By late October five customers were already on the calendar, four of them on his first day back, with more coming in each day.

The usual version of a break like that is a voicemail greeting and a long first morning of callbacks. His starts with a full day.

What it isn't

It's not a replacement for you, and it's not right for every business. Some callers would rather talk to a person, and a few hang up as soon as they realise they aren't. We read the call logs, and when a greeting isn't working, we change it.

That's also why we start with an onboarding call. We ring your new receptionist together, listen to how she handles your calls, and fix anything that sounds off before she goes live.
